PRETORIA COMMUNIQUE ON THE MADAGASCAR MEDIATION INITIATIVE     1.          Within the framework of efforts to find a consensual, inclusive, and durable solution to the crisis in Madagascar, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mediator, Joaquim Chissano, with the support and facilitation of the President of the Republic of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, convened a meeting of the Heads of the four political movements of Madagascar in Pretoria, South Africa, from 28-30 April 2010.  The Chairperson of the African Union (AU) Commission, Jean Ping and the SADC Executive Secretary, Tomaz Salomao, also participated in the meeting. A representative of the United Nations (UN) also attended the meeting.    2.          The Pretoria meeting was attended by the leaders of the political movements: Andry Rajoelina, Marc Ravalomanana, Albert Zafy and Didier Ratsiraka.    3.          The Mediator with the support and the facilitation of President Zuma engaged the leaders of the fo...

President Marc Ravalomanana Pretoria negotiations Wednesday April 28, 2010   We greatly admire the role South Africa is playing on the African continent to resolve conflicts and to assist in building peaceful and democratic societies. We specifically note President Zuma's sterling work as mediator in Burundi and Zimbabwe. We feel very welcome here to today. The fact that South Africa and President Chissano are so directly involved in resolving the Madagascar crisis is highly appreciated by us. South Africa's support to us in many different forms is indispensable and we have to thank you in the warmest possible way. We are grateful also to the African Union and SADC for their help. Une sortie de crise pour Madagascar se joue à Pretoria LEMONDE.FR avec AFP | 28.04.10 | 06h52 'Afrique du Sud et la France vont tenter d'arracher mercredi 28 avril à Pretoria un accord de sortie de crise pour Madagascar, en réunissant les deux principaux protagonistes, l'actuel homme fort du pays, Andry Rajoelina, et le président évincé Marc Ravalomanana. Cet accord, préparé par l'Afrique du Sud, la France et la SADC (Communauté pour le développement de l'Afrique australe), prévoit la constitution d'un gouvernement d'union nationale chargé de conduire le pays à des élections générales le plus rapidement possible, afin de sortir la Grande Ile de l'impasse politique et de la stagnation économique actuelles.
