Antananarivo - Around 350 political prisoners have been jailed on the Indian Ocean island of Madagascar since a coup in March 2009, the country's Malaza newspaper reported Monday.
The group of prisoners included about a dozen journalists, the paper said, citing lawyers.
Human rights watchdogs such as Human Rights Watch and Reporters without Borders have criticized the stifling of basic rights by the interim government of the island's controversial leader Andry Rajoelina.
Former opposition leader Rajoelina took power after ousting former president Marc Ravalomanana with the help of the military.
The international community does not recognize Rajoelina's government.
