Recently, many burglaries occurred in the Ankatso campus. Students are afraid of the worse. “I no longer feel in security since a break-in occurred at my house.

Wherever I am, I always fear that it would be repeated again when I’m back. Now, I feel I am not in security even if I am home. I fear that malefactors would come back again,” worried Miora Rafarazatovo, student in Sociology and recent victim of burglary.

In fact, theft has become frequent in the campus. According our sources, small spies group are crouching on the campus edges and watch students’ move. No one knows who they are or where they come from. However, students do not let it down. They have already launched an inquiry to unmask them. According to the victims’ explanation, they operate at night. They use the windows to get access to the “blocs.” Faced to this situation, students try to reinforce the openings of their blocs. IT equipments are the most stolen. After that come the household appliances like TVs, radios, rice cookers, kettles…

Waning infrastructures

“This phenomenon may be caused by several reasons. The lack of monitoring system for pedestrians is to be deplored. There is no partition delimiting the campus to other nearby quarters including that of Ambohipo,” complained Razakamahery Fidy anxiously, a student living in Ankatso II. Back-and-forth proliferation, the identification of the true campus tenant becomes almost impossible. Another cause is the infrastructure deterioration, which is an asset for muggers. “For example, the locking system of the main doors and windows is no longer solid and strong enough. Wooden windows are in poor state. Moreover, they are ill-closed and partially blocked,” lamented Yvette Rasoamanarivo. She added that a small padlock and a bar are used to lock the doors and the windows. Of course, they do not resist to the smallest outbreak.
