Madagascar Delays Hearing for 3 Opposition Leaders, Midi Says

Madagascar postponed the hearing of three opposition leaders until Jan. 25 after they failed to appear in court yesterday, the Midi newspaper reported today, citing their lawyer.
The defendants couldn’t appear because no one knew where they were held since being moved from a prison in the capital last week, Hanitra Razafimanantsoa said, according to the Antananarivo-based newspaper.
The three opposition leaders were arrested on Nov. 11 and charged with disturbing public order, the destruction of public property and holding an illegal demonstration, Midi reported. They were arrested before a group of army officers attempted a coup on Nov. 17.
